VERNON CAREY FOUNDATION HOSTS 2nd ANNUAL BACK TO SCHOOL SNEAKER SHOPPING SPREE

Retired NFL Players Bryant McKinnie and Adewale Ogunleye Joined Carey in Shopping With Teens In Need from Miami-Dade

Retired Miami Dolphins Offensive Linemen Vernon Carey treated 32 deserving High School students to a sneaker shopping spree at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Aventura on Friday, August 18th. Joining the teenagers in shopping were retired NFL Players Adewale Ogunleye, Bryant McKinnie, Media Personality K. Foxx, Hooters Girls and local community leaders. The children were from organizations in Miami Dade including Miami Beach Police Athletic League, Miami Dade County Public Schools 5000 Role Models, Belafonte TACOLCY and other local organizations. Hooters provided lunch including wings and salad for the participants. Each child received $170 to spend. Dick’s Sporting Goods donated $20 per child. Additional donors include Royal Pig Pub and Tony Galvin. WPLG Local 10 donated a book for each child. “I always enjoy being able to give back to the children and give them a vision of hope. One of the children participating used his gift card to buy a pair of sneakers for himself but also used the additional money on his gift card to buy shoes for a child he mentors and a pair for his sibling. The gift just kept giving,” said Vernon Carey.

The Vernon Carey Foundation creates programs and provides support to encourage the improvement of our youth. These programs are designed to enhance educational and recreational development and economic opportunities within the community.
