Carey Family Foundation Awards Scholarships to Seniors at Local High Schools



(Miami, FL) The Carey Family Foundation including Vernon Carey Sr., LaTavia Carey and Felix Williams presented $7,500 in scholarships to seniors at Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Miami Carol City Senior High School and Miami Central High School on June 2nd.

Each of the three scholarship recipients received $2,500 to use towards their college education. This year’s recipients are George Pickens IV (Miami Northwestern Senior High School), Edrica Jean-Jacques (Miami Central Senior High School) and Zaria Hightower (Miami Carol City Senior High). The schools were selected in honor of Vernon Carey a graduate of Miami Northwestern High School, Felix Williams, the Foundation Treasurer who is a graduate of Miami Central High School and Miami Carol City Senior High in honor of LaTavia Carey’s late father Vincent Banks.

“During these crazy times its so wonderful to see young people striving for greatness despite every obstacle thrown at them. We wish this years recipients much success as they continue their education,” said LaTavia Carey. “We are very thankful to our sponsors and supporters so we can grow the foundation and continue to give children and young adults in our community a vision of hope,” said Vernon Carey Sr. This is the fourth year of the scholarship giveaway.

The Carey Family Foundation (formerly the Vernon Carey Foundation) creates programs and provides support to encourage the improvement of our youth. These programs are designed to enhance educational and recreational development and economic opportunities within the community.
